Waste Minimisation
Location: South East of England
Aims: The aim of this project is to encourage the commercial exploitation of waste management service providers and local waste exchanges
Objectives: To address the aim of the project SECBE will:
- Identify existing waste exchanges, key agencies and activities that relate to the built environment waste minimisation in the south east region
- Map all of the key public and private agencies in the south east region that provide best practice advice, guidance, training or funding to enable the reduction of construction waste
- Understand the current failings of local waste exchanges in order to increase their commercial use
- Create a web portal providing a one-stop information source on waste minimisation
- Market-test the "SmartStart" service where a specialist visits SME sites, assesses waste levels and advises on waste minimisation
Actions: This project will use a combination of research and development methods, including:
- Desk based information gathering of existing waste exchanges
- Engagement with waste management service providers for consultation and to determine the existing services provided
Outcomes: On successful completion of the project we expect to show:
- Simplified and signposted waste reduction knowledge and support
- Increased business understanding of the waste reduction process
- Improved access to waste reduction knowledge and support resulting in commercial exploitation
Work on the pilot project commenced in December 2005
