Technology Skills Project Profile
Location: South East of England
Aims: The aim of this project is to drive the commercial exploitation of Advanced Technologies by identifying and promoting current and emerging construction and built environment technologies and working with employers, training providers and other agencies to ensure that the sector has the right skills base, now and in the future.
Objectives: To address the aim of the project SECBE will:
- Research and collate information on new and emerging technologies
- Stimulate demand from employers for higher level skills needed for application of new technologies
- Disseminate and transfer knowledge through the development of an online resource
- Develop closer working relationships between academics, training providers and construction companies
- Build and facilitate employer learning networks
- Highlight the need for the application of the latest technologies in the construction industry in the South East region
- Provide permitted access to a library of the latest relevant technologies
Partners: SECBE is managing this project while working closely with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) who are responsible for the sustainable economic development and regeneration of the region
Actions: This project will use a combination of research and development methods, including:
- Desk based information gathering of new and emerging technologies
- Presentation at relevant local and regional conferences of project findings and recommendations
- Publishing of project paper in professional journals
- Production of leaflets to promote emerging technologies
- Distribution of the finding of the research to trade and industry bodies
- Mailings to all audiences to highlight the progressions of the project as they occur
Outcomes: On successful completion of the project we expect to show:
- A more extensive and up-to-date training provision at educational institutions in the South East resulting in a highly skilled work force that meets the needs of the construction industry in a continuously developing economic region
- A broad use of the latest technologies across the industry in the South East resulting efficient construction methods and a high quality of build
Work on the pilot project commenced in March 2006 and will run for 24 months
